TESTIMONIALS

PARENT

My daughter has done two freedom camps and the biggest gain has been she nows understands better what happens to her. For years it was so hard to talk about it but now we can talk about her fears and make a plan. And having a plan has made us to move forward. I'm very grateful with Dr Eckel for how much she has helped us. She has truly been a guiding light in this journey.

COUNSELOR

Volunteering for freedom camp was truly a life-changing experience --one of the most enriching opportunities of my graduate school journey. I learned so much in such a short time and will be able to take the skills and knowledge I acquired from training forward in my training and future professional career. However, the best part was being a part of a team that truly leaves a lasting impact on children with SM. Counselors, campers, and families were all amazed by the children's progress at camp. I loved hearing the room filled with laughter and seeing the smiles as campers surprised themselves with their own bravery and discovered ways to speak more freely. The progress I observed throughout camp was stunning. I would strongly recommend Freedom Camp to potential campers, families, and volunteers. - Counselor

My son loved camp and his counselor and is now a huge fan of the Pruneyard. He wishes he could have Freedom Camp all summer!

COUNSELOR

Freedom Camp is such an amazing experience, not only for the campers to have a safe space to practice using their brave voices, but also for counselors to learn how best to support the children on their journeys. Throughout the week, counselors and campers work together as a team to find the optimal ways to both support and challenge campers. As a counselor, I have found this process to be so fulfilling. Everything at Freedom Camp is kid friendly, from the exciting field trips to the ice cream sundaes, which creates an amazing environment in which to work. Even though the campers are working extremely hard, they are having a blast! It is astounding how much growth and progress can occur after one week of intensive treatment and I wish all the children and families the best for the future. -Counselor
